Orla Kiely- Dating Your Bag

*reposting this from last June. Since I don’t know what’s going to happen with my old IG, I’ll be posting some of the more informative posts I don’t want to forget-here.

Orla Kiely is one of personal favorite brands so I am very excited to bring you this tag guide for dating and pricing your Orla Kiely bag finds to resale!

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

As usual, dates can overlap and are approximate. Orla Kiely's earlier bags were all made from fabrics with the signature black woven tag. Next came the coated canvas bags around 2004. It's not clear when the brand started making leather bags, I think shortly after the coated canvas. Around that time the brand also split into a mainline and a diffusion line, I think around the 2007 time frame.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Mainline leather bags are probably the most sought after and have the highest resale. The more colorful, larger in size, or unique, the higher I would price it. Early late 90's Orla Kiely leather bags were still plain solids in dark colors and not as valuable. (She did a capsule collection for Saks Fifth Ave around this time too.)

Once the brand started using the blind emboss logo around 2007, it is worth mentioning that the stamp may appear on different color patches besides the example shown. The newest logo is a gold foil emboss in a modern font all on it's own.

Swipe to see the lower end tags that are not as sought after. One of the biggest errors I see on listings is the pricing on these bags. People see the brand and automatically assume it's as valuable as the mainline items- it's not. If you have a bag from the ETC. line or Target collab that isn't moving, check your pricing. Be sure you are looking a pricing in USD and not GBP.

Orla Kiely home and clothing is also very popular and sought after. Those categories might not follow the same resale value as the bags, so look up comps on any you my find!
