Overall, I think this method is just about the same as using a leather lotion cleaner, if not more time consuming. For heavily finished, dark hue leathers on things you can’t bath, this might be a good option. Also for waterproof leather items, this could work well.
I can see how this method would work well for bags that need some exterior clean up, but aren't filthy enough for bathing. Not all bags need to be bathed or should be bathed at all due to their materials.
It's fun to do the saddle soap method, but use discretion. It can cost more compared to a shammy and lotion. It could darken lighter leathers. For a regular fashion reseller, leather cleaning lotions will be easier and safer in my opinion.
